It was a sad day in boxing when a fighter takes advantage of a situation to capitalize on the error of a referee. It was the referee's mistake. The ref was trying to coordinate the assessment of pionts against Ortiz for spearheading himself into Floyd's face. Ortiz was wrong and certainly unsportsman like in behavior. He was absolutely wrong! But two wrongs don't make a right. Nevertheless, the ref lost control of the fight when he focused his attention to the sidelines to penalize Ortiz for his wrongdoing.
I thought Mayweather wanted to prove that he still had it. I thought he wanted to leave no doubt in our minds that he could easily handle Ortiz as well as Manny. Did he have any doubts? Did Ortiz reveal a threat we (the public) weren't aware? If the ref was paying attention, those punches would have been impossible to be delivered. But the ref wasn't aware of the action in the ring. He was occupied with the sideline judges.
This fiasco was no doubt the referee's fault, unsportman like conduct from Ortiz, and questionable behavior by Mayweather. It was very unchampionship like in what he did.
We still don't know if he has what it takes to beat Manny. Why? Because Floyd took the easy way out.......What a shame.
